Design for Physics

Design for Physics
English

The "Design for Physics" project stems from a partnership between the European Institute of Design in Rome and the Physics Department of Sapienza University of Rome, and proposes new educational tools aimed at secondary schools and designed to improve physics learning even through the use of smartphones. The work will be presented at the 11th edition of Maker Faire Rome, Europe's largest event dedicated to innovation, Oct. 20-22 at the Fiera di Roma.

The Design for Physics tools feature lines with unusual and colorful shapes, designed to inspire creative associations between art and scientific disciplines, recalling the radical style that characterized Italian design in the 1960s and 1970s, re-proposing a provocative and revolutionary vision that foregrounds creativity and identity.

All of the proposed instruments are made from inexpensive, easy-to-find, and environmentally friendly materials and components. They are intended for large-scale production or self-production using popular digital fabrication techniques.

Design for Physics allows work in small groups, on regular school desks, without the need for dedicated spaces. The use of smartphones is one of the focal points of this innovation, enabling digitization of measurements and promoting active learning
