(In)segniamo le particelle

English

The main goal of the “(in)segniamo le particelle” project is to give disabled people the opportunity to get closer to science. Special attention is given to people with hearing impairements.

Since the project is intended for children and teenagers, we will take an entertaining approach that it is more effective to make simple scientific concepts more accessible to everyone.

The project will be divided into two phases. During the first phase, the project managers will go into participating schools. They will present basic lessons and scientific activities according to the audience’s age and will challenge themselves to learn scientific words from particle physics in Italian Sign Language (LIS), e.g. the names of the particles and of the detectors used to study them.
The second phase involves the processing of knowledge transferred to and from the children, in order to make a video of a simple practical created with everyday tools and materials that will be translated into LIS live. The video and all the supporting materials will be uploaded on the project website.

The video will be able to be used not only by the schools that have actively participated, but also in more general events, e.g. the European Night of Researchers, which would be much more inclusive experiences thanks to the possibility to bring  particle physics to people with disabilities.
