Shaping a Multi-Messenger Universe is a newly published open-access special issue of the history of science journal Centaurus:
https://www.brepols.net/products/IS-9782503615400-1
The volume brings together six contributions that explore the emergence of multi-messenger astronomy from historical and epistemological perspectives. Rather than treating it as a combination of observational techniques, the special issue examines multi-messenger astronomy as a new integrative paradigm, characterized by distinctive epistemic practices, collaborative structures, and conceptual challenges.
Drawing on different approaches to historical analysis, the contributions analyze how distinct research domains have converged - sometimes contentiously - to configure the field. Together, the essays stimulate reflection on what truly defines multi-messenger inquiry and how this new form of big science is gradually shaping both itself and our way of observing and modeling the Universe.
