English Language Course
Dr. Annalisa Federici, Ph.D.
annalisa.federici@uniroma1.it

The aim of the English language course for students of Physics is to provide support for the general improvement of productive abilities (speaking, writing).
Classes (2nd semester 2016-2017)
Friday h. 16-18
Class activities: conversation on any topic chosen by students as relevant; writing practice for reports/projects students are required to produce for other disciplines in their study program; grammar focus (if necessary). Attendance is discretionary but, if they decide to attend lessons, students are required to bring any material (books, articles, reports) they believe to be useful for group discussion, and actively participate in the lesson.
Exam (3 CFU, idoneità)
For the final exam students are required to:
1) Send the instructor a written paper/report/project they have already prepared for any other exam in their study program, or they believe will be useful in the future (e.g. part of the thesis), at least 15 days before the beginning of each exam session. The paper should be at least 8-10 pages long (not consisting entirely of formulae/graphs!). The topic is not relevant, but must be related to their field of study.
2) Receive feedback (exam passed/exam failed) based exclusively on the evaluation of their writing abilities, and not on content.
3) Register for an official exam date via Infostud.
The “idoneità” will be certified by the instructor via Infostud. N.B. the presence of the student is not necessary for the exam to be registered; the only thing students are required to do is to send a written paper by email.
Language Certificates
Students in possession of the following Language Certificates can obtain the “idoneità” without doing the exam according to the norms stated above:
Cambridge ESOL B1 (PET) or above, Trinity Grade 6 or above, IELTS 4.0 or above, TOEFL.
Students in possession of a language certificate are required to:
1)      Send the instructor a PDF copy of the certificate
2)      Receive feedback
3)      Register for an official exam date via Infostud.
